What Is Harvoni® Mechanism Of Action?
Both active ingredients in HARVONI® inhibit the enzymes needed for the hepatitis C virus to multiply. Sofosbuvir is a previously approved hepatitis C drug available under the brand name SOVALDI®. In addition to sofosbuvir, Harvoni also contains a new drug, ledipasvir.
Sofosbuvir blocks elements that are important for the functioning of the cell and are used by the hepatitis C virus to copy its own RNA. In other words, it prevents the multiplication of the virus. Ledipasvir blocks the NS5A protein of the hepatitis C virus, preventing it from spreading.
How To Use Harvoni?
Take Harvoni tablet containing 90 mg of ledipasvir and 400 mg of sofosbuvir once a day at the same time with or without meals.
Your doctor will determine the duration of treatment and the administration schedule depending on the specific hepatitis C virus genotype and the stage of the disease.
Side Effects

Precautions
Avoid using Havroni if you are allergic to ledipasvir or sofosbuvir or taking sofosbuvir tablets. Before you start treatment, tell your doctor if you have liver problems (other than hepatitis), kidney disease, HIV or AIDS, or heart rhythm problems for which you are taking amiodarone.
Harvoni® is not harmful to the fetus if you are pregnant, but its effect on breast milk has not been studied. Harvoni® is sometimes used with the medicine Ribavirin, which can cause congenital disabilities or death in the unborn child. You should tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

People under 18 years of age should avoid using the drug.
Avoid taking antacids (especially those containing aluminum or magnesium) for 4 hours before and 4 hours after taking Harvoni.
